Patchwork Folding Patchwork was originally created by people living in poverty. They used leftover swatches of fabrics to create their garments. Tiny van der Plas has modified this sewing technique for card making. Her book, Patchwork Folding, is a workbook containing materials and instructions to create ten different cards. She also includes two sheets with designs for the finishing touch and patterns for the passe-partouts (cutouts). The patchwork technique is similar to iris folding. The patchwork papers used in a project are in four different main colors, ranging from dark to light, with four different patterns and a solid part underneath each sheet. The accompanying sheets have different texts and pictures and are used to finish the cards. Very simply explained, Patchwork Folding involves cutting out a shape in your card, placing the pattern in that space, and filling it with folded strips of paper.
