Faux Quilting
My
friend, Jan Castle, has written the following directions to do faux
quilting. Cut your strips into 1/4" strips using a shredder or a
paper cutter. You can also cut 1/8", 1/2" and even larger
strips, if you like. Use old cards (not your handmade ones, of course),
photos, calendars, wrapping paper, wallpaper, fabric, paint chips and
more. Once you've created your faux quilt, you can die cut it, emboss it,
and more. Let your imagination run wild. Your strips need to be the
same thickness. However, the width and the edges can be different.
Tip:
Use the sticky side of labels to make your faux quilting project. We sell
8 1/2" by 11" sticker sheets and will cut them into quarter panels for
you.

FAUX
QUILTING
Shred cardstock (ex: Christmas Cards) so you get long strips.
Completely cover a piece of cardstock with a strong double-sided
adhesive (note: tape runners are not strong enough…use red line or
something similar). Do NOT overlap your tape. For an A2 card, I cut
my card stock 5” x 3 ¾”…allowing for small matting before
applying the faux quilting to my card.

(#1) Lay your
first strip off center diagonally
|
|
|
|
|
#2 Lay your second strip off one side of the first - not
centered.
#3
Lay your third strip off the other side of the first strip - toward
the opposite end.
|
|
|
|
|
(#4)
Off one of the three strips, lay a piece down...then the next piece
in an alternating direction, repeat...creates a quilt look.

First
quarter finished, untrimmed
|
|
|
Now
move on to the next quarter section and so on. You can trim as you
go or wait until the cardstock is covered and then trim.

|
|
All
trimmed and ready to embellish /add to a card.
